Pastor Thelma Gordon

A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Derrick Williams Jr. and Ophelia H. Abney. A graduate of East Forsyth High School in Kernersville, NC and North Carolina A&T State University with a focus on Early Childhood Education and Grand Canyon University with a Focus on Religious Studies. Currently continuing Education Classes at Clinton College in Religious Studies. She spent many years as a foster parent, foster parent advocate and trainer with the San Jose`, California department of Social Services. She worked for several years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System (Hidden Valley Elementary School, Employee Relations, Waddell High School). Reverend Gordon has been in Christian Ministry for 31 years and the pastoral ministry for 18 years.

Reverend Gordon’s ministry began in San Jose California at the First AME Zion Church in San Jose, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Percy Smith Jr. and the late Rev. James A. Davis.

• Pastor of Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church, Gastonia, NC, Rock Hill District

South Carolina Conference 2006-2007 (1 year)

• Former Pastor of Liberty AME Zion Church, Lake Wylie, SC, York and New Rock Hill Districts

South Carolina Conference since 2007 – 2019 (13 years)

• Served as Alternate Delegate to the General Conference• Serve as Chair of the Prayer Committee of the Department of Church Growth & Development, (6 Years)• Serves as Episcopal Prayer Coordinator of the South Atlantic Episcopal District • Serves as Host and Hostesses Coordinator for South Atlantic Episcopal District • Served as Board Chair of the South Carolina Conference Home Missions Board 2010 –2019• Served as District Director of Evangelism, in South Carolina Conference 2013 – 2018

A member of the NAACP.

A member of the Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship (Catawba Chapter since 2014 --)

Reverend Gordon enjoys music, traveling, writing and reading. She has lived overseas in Atsugi Japan, traveled in Korea, Philippines, Hong Kong, Jamaica as a Missionary and throughout the United States sharing the gospel message of Jesus Christ. She is the wife of Christopher Gordon (photographer of Star of Zion), biological mother of (Kinsza) and nine other adult children and a grandmother.
